A man and his father have been arrested in connection with the death of a woman and are accused of trying to hide her body by wrapping her in a plastic sheet and leaving her near railroad tracks.

Tucson police found Rebecca Felix Soto, 38, near railroad tracks in the area of East Ajo Way and South Sixth Avenue with gunshot wounds, around 1 a.m. Sunday. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to a Pima County Justice Court interim report, police learned during their investigation that Soto had been in an argument with a man she knew, Anthony Salcido Jr., 31.

Salcido’s father, Anthony Salcido Sr., 53, told investigators that when he went into a nearby trailer to get his laptop he heard two gunshots.

When Salcido Sr. went to see what happened, he saw his son outside the residence saying “Dad” and Soto on the ground in a pool of her own blood, with two gunshot wounds to the head, the report said.

The father and son then reportedly covered Soto’s body with a sheet, loaded her in a wheelbarrow and headed for train tracks to the east of the neighborhood.

A neighbor came outside asked what the men were doing after noticing the blood. The father and son responded they “were throwing out the trash,” according to the interim report.

The same neighbor then went to look for the wheelbarrow and found Soto’s body next to it before yelling out for help. Both Salcidos had fled the scene by the time police arrived.

Around 3 a.m., police found Salcido Jr. leaving his girlfriend’s home in a vehicle on Tucson’s far southwest side with his father and began to pursue them.

During the chase, objects were thrown from the vehicle, including what Salcido Sr. would later tell police was a “gun concealed in a white sock,” that he got rid of to “help his son,” according to the interim report.

Both men were booked into the Pima County Jail. Salcido Jr. was arrested on charges of first-degree murder and abandonment/concealment of a dead body, while Salcido Sr. faces charges of abandonment/concealment of a dead body, tampering with evidence and being a prohibited processor.
