A new website is making it easier for people to get help dealing with outstanding warrants and find community resources.
“You don’t have to wait until there is contact with police and get arrested before dealing with a warrant,” Kate Vesely, director of the Justice Services Department, said. “It is much easier to resolve warrants than one might think.”
The new webpage explains the warrant resolution process and provides steps to resolve a warrant before an encounter with law enforcement that could result in an arrest, a news release said. The one-stop webpage has information for courts throughout Pima County, including for the Superior Court Adult Probation’s Clear My Warrant program.
Vesely said an arrest on a “failure to appear” warrant is the most common charge for getting booked into jail. More than 30% of jail bookings include a “failure to appear,” the release said.
“Many in our community live every day in fear that even a relatively minor contact with law enforcement, like a traffic stop, may result in an arrest and going to jail. Even a brief time in jail can affect employment, housing, and child care,” Vesely said.
Through use of the new website, Vesely said she hopes community members can reduce confusion about the judicial process and give people the tools needed to be proactive with their own cases.
