Police made an arrest Wednesday in the fatal shooting Sunday night on the University of Arizona campus, reports say.

Ryan Romero-Encinas, 20 was identified as the alleged gunman in the fatal shooting of a 19-year-old Pima College student during a fight outside a campus dorm, UA police said in a post on X.

Late Wednesday afternoon, KOLD TV posted video of Tucson police taking a man with a cleanly shaved head into custody. The man, dressed in a T-shirt and athletic shorts, resembled Romero-Encinas, but police had not officially confirmed the arrest Wednesday evening.

The shooting took place about 11 p.m. on the volleyball courts outside Arizona Sonora Residence Hall, a dormitory near North Park Avenue and East Fourth Street on the southwestern portion of the campus.

Minhaj Jamshidi was shot multiple times and died at the scene. He was being buried on the same day police made an arrest in the case.

Witnesses said the fight involved two groups of people playing volleyball, and as many as 30 people were involved in the fight, as up to 100 people were in the area.

The UA community has been rocked by deadly shootings over the past two years.

In October 2022, UA Professor Thomas Meixner was shot and killed on campus by an expelled grad student who had been expelled.

In April, Erin Jones, a UA sophomore, was killed when drive-by shooters sprayed an off-campus party with a volley of bullets.
