A woman shot and killed a man who assaulted her and others Friday on Tucson's south side, police said.

Responding officers pronounced Nathan Daniel Gabaldon, 47, dead at the scene shortly after noon Friday, in the 500 block of South Park Avenue near Aviation Highway, police said.

The Tucson Police Department gave the following account in a news release Monday:Β

Detectives learned that Gabaldon had physically fought earlier Friday with Anthony Avalos, 24, in a nearby neighborhood.

Avalos, who had a gun, separated himself from Gabaldon and fired the weapon but did not strike anyone.

Gabaldon moved on to the South Park site and assaulted multiple people, including a woman, as well as a dog.

"At this point, the woman got the firearm from Avalos and pointed it towards Gabaldon, asking him to leave multiple times," police said. Gabaldon came toward her and she fired, striking him.

The woman has not been charged. Avalos was booked into the Pima County jail on suspicion of discharging a firearm within city limits.Β

The case will be sent to the Pima County Attorney’s Office for review.
