A man and a woman were shot at an apartment complex on Tucson's north side, and were in serious condition Wednesday night, police said.

At 6:30 p.m., police received multiple 911 calls reporting a shooting at the Desert Palms Apartments, 3125 N. Alvernon Way, just south of East Fort Lowell Road, said Sgt. Pete Dugan, a Tucson Police Department spokesman.

When officers arrived, they found the two victims with obvious signs of gunshot trauma, Dugan said.

Officers rendered first-aid to the victims, and when Tucson Fire Department paramedics arrived they continued treatment and took the victims to a hospital.

The injuries are life-threatening, said Dugan.

One of the victims lives at the apartment complex, and the shootings were not a random act, Dugan said. He said a preliminary investigation shows that the assailants were "together at some point" with the victims at the complex.

Detectives were working leads late Wednesday night, and ask that anyone with information call 911 or 88-CRIME, an anonymous tipster hotline.

No further information was immediately released.
