Tucson police have detained a man possibly connected to a case in which three people were intentionally run over, two of them killed and the third critically injured on the south side.
Officers responded to a home in the 200 block of East Adams as the possible location of the suspect involved in the homicides, said Sgt. Chris Widmer.
"A male from the residence has been detained but his involvement is unclear at this time," Widmer said.
The incident started shortly before 4 a.m. when a taxi dropped off a man and woman in the 2200 block of East Sunland Vista, near East 36th Street and South Campbell Avenue, said Sgt. Chris Widmer, a Tucson police spokesman.
Shortly after the cab left, a white sedan arrived and a fight broke out between the driver and the man and woman.
One of the men involved in the fight got in the car and ran over a man and two women, Widmer said.
A 47-year-old woman was pronounced dead at the scene and a 32-year-old man was taken to the hospital where he was died shortly after arriving.
A 43-year-old woman was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.
Neither the dead nor injured have been publicly identified.
The driver fled the scene but abandoned the car in a nearby desert area, Widmer said.
A description of the driver was not made public.
Police are also looking for the driver of the cab that dropped off the man and woman for questioning.
Witnesses said the cab was a yellow sedan with the words "Yellow Cab" on the side, Widmer said.
Detectives have contacted Yellow Cab and other taxi companies but have not been able to identify the cab or driver.
