In addition to the nine nine people arrested during a Marana police DUI and traffic warrant sweep, three suspects were found to already be in jail.

Marana police recently arrested nine people in a DUI and traffic warrant sweep, authorities said.

The recent sweep, which police say is one of the most successful of the seven that have taken place this fiscal year, was part of an effort to clear up some of the 100 active warrants issued by Marana Municipal Court, said Sgt. Chris Warren, a Marana Police Department spokesman.

In addition to the nine arrests, three suspects were found to already be in jail.

Twenty-one warrants were served, comprising more than $25,000 worth of bond money. Five people also contacted the Marana court to set up new court dates to eliminate their warrants, Warren said.

Last year, Marana police conducted seven sweeps, netting 69 arrests and $150,000 in recovered bond money and fines, Warren said.
