Pima County Consolidated Justice Court

People with outstanding warrants or suspended driver’s licenses will have an opportunity Tuesday to resolve their legal issues on a walk-in basis.

Pima County Consolidated Justice Court, 240 N. Stone Ave., will be open until 7 p.m. Tuesday for its third Warrant Resolution Court, spokesman Doug Kooi wrote in a news release.

Warrant Resolution Court is intended to be an easy way for people to handle their legal issues without having to schedule an appointment.

“Court officials hope the community sees this event as an opportunity for people who work, go to school, or have any other weekday issues, to address their warrant status without interruption to their weekday schedule,” Kooi said.

The event begins at 4 p.m. and two courtrooms will be open where judges will hear cases, with lawyers from the Pima County Attorney’s Office and Pima County Office of Court Appointed Counsel available to assist.

There also will be four service windows open for people who owe fines or fees to set up a payment plan or re-establish an existing payment plan, said.

Most of Justice Court’s 19,000 active warrants are for failure to appear in court on prior charges or noncompliance with sentencing orders, which lead to a person’s driver’s license being suspended, Kooi said.

The previous two warrant court events drew in a combined 1,596 people, many of whom left with their warrant quashed or driver’s license suspension lifted.

Walk-ins are welcome at the event, but people are encouraged to call 724-3171 and schedule an appointment to ensure quick service.
