A 47-year-old Tohono O'odham woman has been sentenced to 11 years in prison for a 2013 DUI crash that killed that two family members, officials said.
Monique Pablo-Johnson was under the influence of alcohol and cocaine while driving on SR 86 near Sells, when she drove off the road and crashed into a hill, killing her 25-year-old daughter and 7-week-old granddaughter,ย the U.S. Attorneyโs Office said in a news release.
The daughter and granddaughter, who weren't wearing seatbelts or in a child safety seat, were ejected from the vehicle. They both died at the scene. An adult male cousin was also in the vehicle at the time of the crash, but the extent of his injuries is unclear.
After the crash, Pablo-Johnson moved from the driver's seat into the front passenger seat, and told police that her daughter had been driving at the time of the crash, the release said.
U.S. District Judge Rosemary Marquez sentenced Pablo-Johnson to eight years for the death of her granddaughter and three years for the death of her daughter.
Pablo-Johnson previously pleaded guilty to two counts of involuntary manslaughter.
