Roger Wilson

A 48-year-old man was arrested Thursday in connection to a fatal shooting in the Sierra Vista area.

Roger Wilson was booked into the Cochise County jail on suspicion of second-degree murder and being a prohibited possessor of firearms, according to a Cochise County Sheriff's Office Facebook post June 22.

At 1:14 a.m., deputies responded to a 911 call from a woman who said her son was shot. Deputies went to the woman's home in the 4000 block of Sagebrush, which is south of Sierra Vista, officials said.

Deputies and medical personnel found Jose Arvizu, 33, with a gunshot wound to his upper body. Arvizu was taken to Canyon Vista Medical Center where he later was pronounced dead.Β

During the investigation, detectives made contact with Wilson in the 5000 block of Santa Elena, also south of Sierra Vista. Detectives were led to Wilson after following a blood trail between the two residences, states the post.

Wilson told detectives that he was going to his vehicle outside of the fenced yard when he saw Arvizu outside of the gate. Wilson said that he was afraid that he was going to be assaulted so he retrieved his 20-gauge shotgun from his truck and shot Arvizu.
