A man was arrested Wednesday, May 17, in the shooting death of a teen at a fast-food restaurant on Tucson's north side.Β
Nathan Mayo, 27, was taken into custody after officers received a tip that he was on foot in an east-side neighborhood, said Sgt. Pete Dugan, a Tucson Police Department spokesman.
Officers and federal marshals spotted Mayo near East 22nd Street and South Harrison Road. Mayo ran and after a brief foot chase he was arrested without incident, Dugan said. Β
Mayo was booked into the Pima County jail on suspicion of second-degree murder in the death of Carl Thompson, 17, said Dugan.
Thompson was shot May 8 and he died May 13 at Banner-University Medical Center, police said.
Shortly before 7:30 p.m. May 8, police responded to Jack in the Box at 305 W. Grant Road to a report of a shooting in the parking lot. The restaurant is near North Oracle Road.
Tucson Fire Department paramedics treated and transported Thompson to the hospital.
Detectives determined that Mayo dropped off a woman at the restaurant to meet with her boyfriend and his family. While in the parking lot an argument began between Mayo, the boyfriend and the boyfriend's brother who was Thompson, said police.
During the argument Mayo pulled out a handgun and pointed it at the boyfriend before shooting Thompson. Mayo then got into his vehicle and left. Police searched the area but Mayo was not found. Police did locate and recovered his vehicle.
