The mother of a 7-month-old boy has been arrested more than a year after he died from severe head injuries, Tucson police say.

Kimberly Self, 24, was booked into the Pima County jail Thursday evening on two felony charges of child abuse in connection with the December 2016 death of her son, police said in a news release.

Victor Self died at the hospital on Dec. 3, 2016. He had skull fractures and bleeding in his brain.

Tucson fire paramedics who were initially sent to Selfโ€™s apartment near East Speedway and North Country Club Road also said the boy was malnourished, police said at the time.

A 3-year-old boy linked to the initial police investigation has since been diagnosed with several medical issues, including developmental and cognitive delays, the news release said.

A number of family members and friends were in the home when the children were found. No further arrests have been made.

The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to call 911 or 88-CRIME.
