A man who was shot and killed at Tiki Motel on Tucson’s north side Tuesday was identified as Jorge Ibarra, said authorities.

Police continue searching for two men who ran from the scene after the shooting, said Sgt. Kimberly Bay, a Tucson Police Department spokeswoman.

Ibarra was 35 years old.

Officers responded to the Tiki Motel, 2649 N. Oracle Road, shortly after noon when they received a report of a shooting from a 911 caller, said Bay.

The motel is north of West Grant Road.

When officers arrived they gave aid to Ibarra, and Tucson Fire paramedics took over, but Ibarra was pronounced dead at the scene, Bay said.

Police did not release if Ibarra was staying at the motel.

Investigators learned that Ibarra was in a confrontation with several men in the parking lot when the shooting occurred. Two men were seen running from the lot.

She said additional officers, including the Special Weapons and Tactics team, hostage negotiators and police dog units, arrived and searched area neighborhoods for the men who ran from the motel. As a precaution, Nash Elementary School, 515 W. Kelso St., was placed on lockdown during the search.

Detectives ask that anyone with information call 911 or 88-CRIME, an anonymous tipster hotline.
