Tucson police have released the identity of a 23-year-old man who was arrested Monday night, following an hourslong armed standoff with police, authorities said.
Ezekiel Frias was taken into custody shortly before 7:30 p.m., and has been charged with six felonies and a misdemeanor, stemming from a SWAT incident that took place in the area of South Beverly Avenue and South Craycroft Road, according to a post on the Tucson Police Department's Facebook page.
Shortly after 5:30 p.m., officers arrived at a home in the 5300 block of East 29th Street, in response to a call regarding an unknown man with a gun, parked in the driveway, the post said.
When officers approached the truck, which had the engine running, they saw the man inside with one hand on the gun and another in his lap, and promptly called for backup, before closing off the road and evacuating three nearby residences, the post said.
Hostage negotiators and SWAT members used a public address system to talk to the man, who wasn't initially responsive to police commands. Shortly before 7:30 p.m., he came out of the truck and surrendered without incident.
Detectives learned that the vehicle Frias was in was reported stolen out of Maricopa County last month, and the gun on his lap was an airsoft handgun, the post said.
Frias was booked into the Pima County jail on felony charges of prohibited possession of drugs, marijuana, paraphernalia, unlawful means of transportation and prohibited possessor of a handgun, according to the TPD post.
He was also booked on a misdemeanor DUI and an unrelated misdemeanor warrant.
Frias is currently in jail on a $5,000 bond.
