A woman was handcuffed and detained by a man impersonating a police officer on Tucsonโ€™s east side Friday.

The woman was driving in a residential area near East Broadway and North Wilmot Road at about 8 a.m. when she was stopped by a man she believed to be a member of law enforcement, according to a news release from Tucson Police.

The man, who did not provide identification, was driving a 2009 four-door sedan with red and blue lights mounted on the dashboard. When he approached the womanโ€™s vehicle, he was wearing civilian clothing and told her he was an off-duty police officer, the release said.

The man detained the driver in handcuffs and placed her in the back seat of his vehicle for a period of time before releasing her, the release said.

Detectives have found no indication that the man was affiliated with law enforcement. The suspect and vehicle remain outstanding.
