Serious traffic collision

A serious vehicle collision involving a bus stop at Grant and Alvernon in Tucson.Β  Fire department reported five critically-injured patients. Three patients have died.

A third person has died following a car crash that smashed into a bus stop in September, Tucson police said in a news release.

Police were advised on Monday, Oct. 15 that 20-year-old Hunter Beckhorn died from his injuries sustained in the crash.Β

On Sept. 15, police said a 2006 Mazda M6 was speeding southbound on Alvernon Way, near East Grant Road. When the Mazda approached Grant, the light turned red. The Mazda then swerved into the northbound lanes, went around the stopped vehicles, and ran the red light.

The Mazda then swerved back into the southbound lanes but hit a 2008 Jeep Patriot, which then hit a third vehicle.

The Jeep was driven by 75-year-oldΒ James Deshler, who died as a result of the crash, police said in September.

After hitting the Jeep, the Mazda spun out of control, jumped the curb, went across the sidewalk, and crashed into a bus stop where three people, including Beckhorn and 65-year-old Gary Goodboy, were sitting.Β

Goodboy died from his injuries in September.Β

The third person who was sitting at the bus stop was also taken to a hospital with what were originally said to be life-threatening injuries, but has since been released. The driver of the Mazda was treated for minor injuries.

No signs of impairment were found, but speed was a factor. No arrests or citations have been made, police said.

The investigation is ongoing.Β

A GoFundMe page has been set up by Beckhorn's family.Β
