A dog was killed and four others are missing, after a Wednesday night fire destroyed a home on Tucson's northwest side.

A dog was killed and four others missing, after a Wednesday night fire completely destroyed a residence on the northwest side, authorities said.

Just before 10:30 p.m, Northwest Fire District responded to multiple 911 calls about smoke and flames coming from a house in the area of North Flowing Wells Road and Miracle Mile, said Capt. Brian Keeley, a department spokesman.

When the first crews arrived, they found the single-wide trailer engulfed in flames, and weren't able to enter the home. Crews fought the fire from the exterior, in an attempt to protect surrounding homes, Keeley said.

The closes hydrant was more than 600 feet away from the residence, and it took 20 firefighters a little more than 20 minutes to control the blaze, Keeley said.

The homeowner, who was able to exit the home, uninjured, after a smoke detector went off. The owner's cat is believed to have gotten out safely.

A damage estimate isn't available yet for the home, but it's considered a total loss. No other structures were damaged in the fire, and the cause is currently under investigation, Keeley said.
