The Tucson Jewish Community Center's annual Purim Parade attracted an assortment of cowboys, princesses and other characters.

About 100 youngsters made their way from the center's garden into the community center to sing songs and enjoy other activities.

Friday's parade included some staff members and parents dressed up in costume along with the children.

"We usually have the parade inside the JCC but since we have this new sculpture garden, we decided to do it outside," said Helen Bernard, a JCC spokeswoman.

The Jewish holiday of Purim honors Queen Esther, a Jewish woman who, according to Jewish belief, risked her life to save the Jews in Persia from anti-Semitic villain Haman, who wanted to kill them.

The Tucson Jewish Community Center is at 3800 E. River Road. Go online to www.tucsonjcc.org for more information.
