The organizer of an effort to oust three TUSD Governing Board members failed to submit any recall petitions by the filing deadline Thursday.

Brian Sauber, chairman of Parents for Ethics in TUSD, led the campaign against Board President Adelita Grijalva, Clerk Kristel Foster and Cam Juarez in July.

He needed to collect at least 15,067 valid signatures for each member in 120 days.

The trio makes up the Governing Board majority and were accused by Sauber of failing to provide responsible and accountable fiscal oversight of taxpayer dollars, failing to demand accountability from the superintendent, failing to respect and respond to concerns from TUSD community and staff, and approving unwarranted raises and bonuses amongst other issues.

The Governing Board members denied the allegations and Grijalva has characterized Sauber as a โ€œdisgruntled former employee,โ€ who has an ulterior motive.

Had Sauber succeeded, a recall election would have cost the Tucson Unified School District at least $500,000.
