City High School’s Gender-Sexuality Alliance will host its second annual Tucson Queer Youth Summit Saturday.

The event will be held at the City High School campus, 47 E. Pennington St. It starts at 9 a.m. with a keynote speech by Abby Louise Jensen, vice president of the Southern Arizona Gender Alliance.

That portion and the closing discussion, which will start at 2:30 p.m., is open to all ages.

The speech will be followed by workshops starting at 10:30 a.m. for youths ages 11 to 19 years old. Workshop topics include being queer on a college campus and slam poetry.

There will also be booths, including from El Rio Community Health Center and the Southern Arizona AIDS Foundation, at the summit.

LGBT youth in Tucson often don’t have the resources to connect with other youths who are like them, said Laurel Fisher, a student organizer at City High School.

“Our ultimate goal is to bring everyone together for a community event that really connects us queer youth to each other,” she said.

The youth sessions have a capacity of 100 attendees.

Organizers encourage the public to register through the summit’s Facebook page.
