Undergraduate tuition for the University of Arizona will be increasing between 2.5% and 3% for the 2024-25 school year pending approval from the Arizona Board of Regents.

The UA released its official tuition data to ABOR ahead of a board meeting in Tucson on Thursday. Because the university did not increase each total (tuition plus fees) by more than 3% in each case, the proposal is expected to be approved by ABOR.

According to the Arizona Constitution, public university instruction should be “as nearly free as possible.”

The following tuition hikes are subject to board approval on Thursday.

For undergraduate, in-state students who are beginning at the UA in fall 2024, tuition is increasing by 2.5%, from $11,871 last fall to $12,168 this coming fall. For continuing in-state students, tuition will increase from $11,546 to $11,835, or a 2.5% increase.

For undergraduate, out-of-state students who are beginning at the university in fall 2024, tuition is increasing by 3%, from $39,340 to $40,520. For continuing out-of-state students, tuition will increase from $37,053 to $38,165, or a 3% increase.

Rather than paying additional fees for athletics, health and recreation, for example, students will now be responsible for paying one single “student engagement fee” that pulls together all of the old charges into one single amount. This was approved by ABOR in Nov. 2023.

Here’s a breakdown of tuition for graduate students:

Resident graduate students: Tuition for in-state graduate students is increasing by 15.9%, from $12,718 to $14,738, but it’s offset by the decrease of fees. The total cost for in-state graduate students is instead increasing a total 3.3%.

Nonresident graduate student: Tuition is increasing by 5.3%, from $32,290 to $33,992.

UA College of Medicine, Tucson and Phoenix: In-state new students will pay $39,678 this year. New out-of-staters can expect to pay $58,758 this year.

UA College of Veterinary Medicine: New in-state students will pay $49,168 this year, while new out-of-state students will owe $76,484 this year.
