A new Kumon center has opened in Oro Valley.

Kumon is one of the world’s largest after-school education chains, providing individualized enrichment programs for reading and math.

The new center, at 1335 W. Lambert Lane, would be the third Kumon math and reading learning center in the Tucson area.

Kumon has programs for preschool to high school students.

Hooters to donate portion of Oct. 22 proceeds to teacher booster group

A Tucson organization supporting teachers is hosting an event at Hooters on Oct. 22.

Treasures 4 Teachers provides free or low-cost educational supplies and materials, donated by business and community members, to teachers.

Hooters, 4385 W. Ina Road, will donate 15 percent of the proceeds from sales between 5 and 9 p.m. that day.

Oct. 19 open house at St. Michael’s is

chance to meet teachers, check programs

St. Michael’s School, a private school on the east side, will host an open house Oct. 19.

The school’s campus at 602 N. Wilmot Road, will be open from 9 to 11 a.m. for parents to meet the teachers and learn about the school’s programs.

2 library employees win college tuition

The Friends of Green Valley/Sahuarita Libraries are sponsoring two library employees to attend college for the fall semester.

Joseph Garcia, a library technical assistant, and Vicki Lazaro, a program instructor, received scholarships to study information services at the University of Arizona.

The Friends group is providing the scholarships from money it raised through sales and donations from its more than 900 members.
