UHS given top
national distinction
University High School was named a National Blue Ribbon School by the U.S. Department of Education.
National Blue Ribbon is distinction given to schools for overall academic excellence or progress in closing achievement gaps among student groups.
UHS is one of four Arizona schools to be honored this year by the federal education department. The three others are: Fuller Elementary School in Tempe, Vista del Sur Traditional School in Laveen and Jack Barnes Elementary School in Queen Creek.
The school previously received the distinction in 2005. Two other TUSD schools were previously recognized as National Blue Ribbon schools. They are: Sabino High School in 2013 and Drachman Montessori Magnet School in 2015.
2 students named Hispanic Scholars
Two Green Fields K-12 School seniors were selected National Hispanic Scholars.
Jasmine Romanov and Tanner Schmidt were chosen by the College Boardβs National Hispanic Recognition Program.
Students must have a GPA of 3.5 of higher and score in the top 2.5 percent among Hispanic test takers.
Romanov has attended the independent school since first grade. She is also part of the National Honor Society. Schmidt has been at the school since third grade and is also a member of the honor society.
Pueblo High names 12 to Hall of Fame
Pueblo High Schoolβs foundation will induct 12 people into its Hall of Fame at its second annual banquet on Oct. 23.

The banquet is at 11 a.m. at the Hotel Tucson City Center, 475 N. Granada Ave. A brunch ticket costs $40 and a table for 10 people costs $375.
