Pima JTED hosts 10-year anniversary gala
The Pima County Joint Technical Education District is hosting a 10-year anniversary gala.
The gala will be held at the Desert Diamond Conference and Entertainment Center, 7350 S. Nogales Hwy., on July 15.
The event will help raise money to buy supplies and equipment for more than 50 career and technical education programs provided by Pima JTED.
Tickets start at $100. The Connie Hillman Family Foundation will match $1 for every $2 donated to the fund up to $25,000.

Vantage West gives $10K in scholarships
Ten Arizona students were awarded $1,000 scholarships each from Vantage West Credit Union.
Seven of those students are from the Tucson area.
The winners are:
- Cassandra Colby of Empire High School who is heading to Northern Arizona University;
- Kasey Carpenter of Catalina Foothills High School who will attend NAU;
- Valerie Pedersen of Canyon del Oro High School, headed to the University of Arizona;
- Dalia Lis of Tanque Verde High School who will also attend the UA;
- Mariah Dockum of Mammoth-San Manuel Unified High School, UA;
- Brett Dennis of Empire High School, UA;
- Gabriella Encinas of Sahuaro High School, who is heading to Arizona State University;
- Kathryn Rottler, who previously graduated from Cienega High School and will continue at UA;
- Afra Nawar and Farhan Rahman, both of whom previously graduated from BASIS Chandler and will continue at ASU.
Students were selected based on academic excellence, philanthropy, quality of their essays and good character.
Flowing Wells tweaks summer meals plan
Flowing Wells School District has a small change to its summer free meals schedule.
Starting June 7, the district added lunch service at Flowing Wells High School, 3725 N. Flowing Wells Road, from 10:50 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. Monday through Thursday.
