Sahuarita High School students Jonathan Arvizu, Ian Morales and Moriah Luna received silver medals in a national competition for high school career and technical students.

More than 6,000 students competed at the 2024 SkillsUSA Championships held late last month in Atlanta.

The team consisting of Arvizu, Morales and Luna won in the occupational health and safety multiple team category, a SkillsUSA news release said.

A total of 1,250 gold, silver and bronze medals were presented to students. Many winners received industry prizes, tools of their trade or scholarships.

Pima JTED names new CFO

Sebastian Alt has been named the chief financial officer of Pima JTED.

Alt, an Air Force veteran of 10 years, most recently served as CFO for the Arizona Historical Society.

Alt is completing his final two courses to earn his MBA from the American Military University this summer.

โ€œThe more Iโ€™ve learned about Sebastianโ€™s remarkable background, the more Iโ€™m inspired and assured heโ€™s the best person to help us achieve our goals of expanding our reach in southern Arizona and solidifying our position as a national model for public education that serves students, business and industry, and our economy,โ€ said Kathy Prather, Pima JTEDโ€™s superintendent and CEO, in a news release.

Chicanos Por La Causa offering internships

Chicanos Por La Causa is offering an internship with its immigration program during the summer or upcoming semester.

CPLC Family Immigration Services program has 6 to 8 open positions for internships this summer or next semester. Those interested can email a résumé and a paragraph of interest to tucson.immigration@cplc.org.

TUSD offers immunizations

Tucson Unified School District is offering free back-to-school immunization clinics for district students throughout July at its Family Resource Centers.

Menlo Family Resource Center, 1100 W. Fresno St., will host a clinic from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 9. For more information, call 520-225-2172.

Other clinics include: Southwest Family Resource Center, 6855 S. Mark Rd, from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. July 11, 520-908-3980; Catalina Family Resource Center โ€” Hines Gym, 3645 E. Pima St., from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. July 16, 520-232-8684; and Palo Verde Family Resource Center, 1302 S. Avenida Vega, from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. July 20, 520-584-7455.

Parents must be present for children under the age of 18.

All recommended vaccines for children five years old and older will be available.

Insurance will be billed, but no-cost vaccines are available for the uninsured. Bring photo identification, insurance cards and immunization records.

Sunnyside hosting job fair

Sunnyside Unified School District is hosting a job fair from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. July 9 at the Sunnyside High School west gym.

The district will be hiring positions in special education, along with teachers, substitutes, bus drivers, bus mechanics and bus monitors.
