Tanque Verde schools have a new chief.

Scott Hagerman, superintendent of Continental Elementary School District in Green Valley, will replace Kimberly Sharp as Tanque Verde’s superintendent starting July 1.

Tanque Verde Unified School District is home to about 2,100 students and 280 employees. It has two elementary schools, a junior high and a high school.

Sharp, whose employment ends on June 30, announced her retirement in December following a two-year tenure as top administrator. She previously served the district as its director of human resources.

Hagerman previously worked for the Tucson Unified School District as an elementary school principal and then, director of exceptional education. He holds a doctorate in educational leadership from Northern Arizona University and master’s degrees in education and music.

“It’s exciting to go to a place that’s already so high-achieving,” Hagerman said. He added that he would work toward building on that momentum and working with the Tanque Verde community.

He will be paid between $100,000 and $125,000 for the job, he said.

As for the district he’s leaving behind, Hagerman said he would work to make sure the transition is smooth. “This has been a really great experience,” he said of his two years as superintendent at Continental Elementary district.

Carlos Ruiz, the governing board president, said Hagerman’s communication skills and philosophy for education stood out. The board unanimously voted to offer Hagerman a contract.

“He just fits our community,” Ruiz said. “We’re excited to have Dr. Hagerman.”
