An equipment failure at a Tucson Electric Power substation may have been the cause of a widespread power outage on Wednesday morning.
More than 30,000 TEP customers were without power during the outage that stretched across town.
The outage started at about 11 a.m. and lasted for 40 minutes, affecting homes, businesses, schools and traffic lights in various parts of town, said utility spokesman Joe Barrios.
The affected areas were in two pockets, the first stretching from central Tucson to the far southern area of town, Barrios said.
The second outage ran from the far west side to the southwest side, he said.
βWeβre still investigating the cause, but it appears to be equipment failure at a substation that serves several circuits,β Barrios said later in the day.
