Bald Beauties Project

Kelsey Luria, who died at age 18, came up with the idea of photo shoots for cancer patients.

Local foodies can raise a toast and enjoy fabulous fall fare while supporting children battling cancer at the Bald Beauties Project Benefit Dinner on Saturday, Sept. 22.

The Bald Beauties Project recently completed its 100th professional photo shoot for children, teens and young adults undergoing cancer treatment. Each photo session includes professional makeup upon request, as well as portraits of the child along with photos of the child’s family and pets.

The photo shoots not only help to build confidence when young people are undergoing treatment, but also provide important keepsakes for the children and their families, according to Bald Beauties co-founder Maya Luria.

Maya’s daughter, Kelsey Taylor Luria, was empowered by her own photo shoots when she was undergoing treatment for acute myeloid leukemia, a rare and aggressive form of cancer that impacts mostly adults. Kelsey died of complications of the disease three years ago at the age of 18.
