Is the First Amendment under attack when it comes to a free press?

A free discussion at The Loft Cinema, 233 E. Speedway, will provide an open dialogue about the state of the free press.

On Monday, Arizona Daily Star reporters Joe Ferguson and Caitlin Schmidt will join several other panelists to discuss the issue and answer audience questions. The event’s emcee is David Fitzsimmons, editorial cartoonist for the Star.

Doors open at 5:30 and the event starts at 6 p.m. with a presentation about the history and importance of the First Amendment by Jane Bambauer, a professor of law at the University of Arizona

Panelists will further explore the β€œcontroversy surrounding the press, bias and the interaction between the media and public officials,” according to the event’s promotional materials.

The event is hosted by Indivisible Southern Arizona and Tucson Jews for Justice.
