Sharon Bronson resigned her post on the Pima County Board of Supervisors last month. Eight people have applied to replace her.

Eight people are seeking appointment to a vacant seat on the Pima County Board of Supervisors following the resignation last month of Sharon Bronson.

Bronson, a Democrat, cited injuries suffered in a recent fall in a resignation letter explaining her decision to leave the position.

Bronson was first elected to the post in 1996. She won a seventh four-year term in 2020.

The board accepted Bronson’s resignation on Nov. 21.

The applicants to replace Bronson are Brian Johnson, Kristen Randall, Joe L. Machado, April Hiosik Ignacio, Matthew A. Kopec, Jennifer Allen, Edgar F. Soto and Sylvia M. Lee.

An update on the vacancy is on the Supervisors’ agenda for its meeting on Tuesday, Dec. 5.

The Board is expected to fill the vacancy at its scheduled meeting Dec. 19.

Voters in the district will elect a candidate to a new, four-year term in 2024.

Bronson represented District 3, Pima County’s largest district. It covers about 7,400 square miles in the western part of the county. The district shares 130 miles of international border with Mexico.
