Pima County Treasurer Beth Ford will resign next month, she said Monday in a letter to the Pima County Board of Supervisors.
Fordโs last day will be April 12.
She asked the board to name her chief deputy to the post.
โKnowing that I would not be seeking another term, I sought a Chief Deputy Treasurer that would be able to continue the progress we have made. I found that person in former State Representative Chris Ackerley,โ Ford wrote. โI have every confidence he can lead the office through the challenges of the coming year and wholeheartedly recommend that you appoint him to fill the remainder of the term.โ
Ford, who first took office in January 2001, reminded the board about challenges her office had to overcome.
โTwenty-four years ago, the Pima County Treasurerโs Office was mired in problems. โ Ford wrote Monday. โThere were eight different computer systems that couldnโt talk to each other, the books were out of balance, and the office had been issued many significant audit findings.โ
โThe books are balanced, and we havenโt had a significant audit finding in years. My job is done,โ Ford said.
