Six candidates filed petitions to appear on the primary ballot for Oro Valley Town Council, officials said.

Current council members Bill Garner, Mike Zinkin and Brendan Burns will be defending their seats against challengers Rhonda Pina, Steve Solomon and Bill Rodman, said Oro Valley communications administrator Misti Nowak.

Garner submitted 539 signatures, Zinkin came in with 658 and Burns collected 614.

The minimum number of signatures required to get on the ballot was 381.

All three were elected in 2012.

Challenger Pina turned in 708 signatures, Solomon had 542 and Rodman filed 682.

Pina, Solomon and Rodman have been campaigning as a group, citing budget oversight and economic development as some of their priorities if elected.

The 2012 and 2014 town council races were decided in the primary election and never made it into the general, said Town Clerk Julie Bower, urging citizens to vote on Aug. 30.
