Ballots

Pima County election workers were busy checking ballots in 2014 at the elections office.

For those watching a few local political tight races still too close to call, you are going to need an extra dose of patience.Β

With more than 20,000 ballots still uncounted, Pima County election officials estimate they won't be done counting ballots until Friday.

The county began count ballots this afternoon at 1 p.m., but Pima County Elections Department Director Brad Nelson said it will take several days to count an estimated 16,359 early ballots.

Additionally, county staff and election volunteers need to time to verify information for the 3,805 provisional and 95 conditional ballots they haven't counted.

The county had several problems with election software on Tuesday night, with the County Elections Department web siteΒ listing the wrong number of precincts reporting results as well as the number of registered voters in the county.

Nelson is confident the vote totals are correct, noting the county performed several integrity checks of the equipment prior to Tuesday night.

He said the equipment will be retested again once all the ballots have been counted, likely after Saturday's planned hand count.
