The Pima Association of Governments Regional Council has approved an annual contract for the next executive director for the Regional Transportation Authority and PAG.
The unanimous decision will give Farhad Moghimiο»Ώ, the assistant town manager in Sahuarita, an annual salary of $153,700.
The director oversees the regionβs planning efforts and the $2.1 billion RTA program.

Before he became Sahuaritaβs assistant town manager, Moghimi was the townβs director of public works. His experience also includes working in private consulting and for the town of Marana. Moghimi has served as chair of the RTAβs Technical Management Committeeβs Policy Subcommittee and as vice chair of PAGβs Transportation Planning Committee.
As the PAG/RTA executive director, Moghimi will be responsible for establishing long-range goals and objectives for the organizations, identifying regional issues and building consensus to address regional challenges, an official announcement of his hiring said.
He also will be responsible for all regional planning, transportation services and programs, and administration functions, including intergovernmental consultation and coordination of programs. Other responsibilities include developing and managing the PAG and RTA budgets.
Moghimiβs salary is slightly lower than what PAG and the RTA were paying his predecessor Gary Hayesο»Ώ, who was director from 2004 through 2012 before resigning for health reasons.
When Hayes left the position, his annual salary was $168,000, according to PAG spokeswoman Sheila Stormο»Ώ.
