At the end of the month, South Tucson will have a new city manager overseeing the day-to-day operations of the financially troubled square-mile city.

The South Tucson Council signed off on hiring for the position last month and named Sixto Molina, the city’s former police chief, to the job. It has since finalized a contract with Molina to pay him $80,000 per year to run the city.

Molina left South Tucson in 2007 to take a job overseeing security for the Sunnyside Unified School District.

The woman who served as the acting city manager for 18 months, Veronica Moreno, earned $78,079 in 2016 and was the city’s highest-paid employee. However, she also served at the same time as the city clerk and the human resources director for the city.

The council also gave a six-month contract to Bobby Yu to serve as the city attorney.

Yu, who started working with the city at the beginning of the month, will be paid the equivalent of $63,000 per year, or about $31,500.
