House Speaker Paul Ryan was in Tucson last night to help raise funds for Republican Congressional candidate Lea Marquez Peterson.
A sourceΒ familiar with the Speaker's scheduleΒ said the speaker attended a private fundraiser on behalf of Lea Marquez Peterson's campaign in Tucson on Wednesday night and he thanked volunteers with the Peterson campaign on Thursday morning at her headquarters, also in Tucson.Β
Jeremy Adler, Ryan's political spokesman, said Ryan is here to support the President and CEO of the Tucson Hispanic Chamber of Commerce.
"Lea Marquez Peterson is one of the best congressional candidates in the country and Speaker Ryan is excited to come to southeastern Arizona to support her campaign," said Adler.
Both events that Ryan attended were closed to the press, he said.
Peterson will face former Congresswoman Ann Kirkpatrick, the Democratic nominee, in November, as the two women vie to replace Rep. Martha McSally.
McSally announced earlier this year she would not seek another term, opting to run for Jeff Flake's seat in the Senate.
