A man who was shot by Tucson police during a family fight over a gun has been released from the hospital and booked into the Pima County jail.
Tucson police said Eyan Gastelum, 25, is facing charges of domestic violence/disorderly conduct with a weapon and drug possession.
Gastelum was shot by a Tucson police officer April 4.
Officers went to a house in the 1300 block of North Falcon Ridge Drive about 8 p.m. after neighbors called police to say people were fighting in front of a house and one of them had a gun, police said at the time.
As police approached, officers saw a father and son fighting for a gun, which fired, police said. At that point one of the officers, identified as 3-year-veteran Officer Gustavo Castro, fired his gun, striking Gastelum.
Gastelum was taken to the hospital with serious but non-life-threatening wounds, police said at the time.
In addition to the criminal investigation, the department is conducting an administrative review of the officer’s actions, which is standard procedure in officer-involved shootings.
