1870: After traveling for more than two weeks from San Diego, the seven Catholic sisters of Carondelet are welcomed to Tucson by fireworks and 3,000 people. The sisters would open a girls academy, a school at Mission San Xavier del Bac and an orphanage. In 1880, the opened Arizona's first hospital β St. Mary's β with 12 beds.
1881: The first telephone office is established in Tucson.
1894: The city of Flagstaff is incorporated.
1909: The Pima County Court dismisses a 22-year-old murder indictment against Geronimo.
1910: The Pima County Board of Supervisors rules they would not license saloons in mining camps that has no police force.
1991: University of Arizona softball team defeats three-time defending national champion UCLA to win its first of eight NCAA titles. It's also the first women's team national championship for UA in any sport.
