With the shelter at capacity, Pima Animal Care Center is offering a "name your own adoption fee" Construction Sale through Sunday.
Although construction on the new campus is moving at a quick pace, the current shelter is in need of community support in the form of adopters, fosters and volunteers, according to a news release.
As of July 27, PACC staff and volunteers were caring for nearly 700 pets, including 61 cats that were brought in last week from a hoarding case. Many of the pets have special medical needs or are shy and scared in the shelter setting.
“We’re in a critical situation and need the community to adopt, foster and volunteer,” said Kristen Auerbach, PACC director. “This is a call to action for our rescue partners and adopter community. Help is needed now to save all of our pets.”
Construction crews have reached the midpoint for Phase 1 of PACC's new campus, which is set to open in mid-December and will include a new adoption center, vet clinic, admissions area and other spaces.
The adoption sale will be honored at the main shelter, located at 4000 North Silverbell Road, and five offsite PetSmart locations. All pets come spayed or neutered with vaccines, a microchip and a voucher for a free vet visit. A standard $18 licensing fee will apply to all adult dogs.
The shelter is open from 12 to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.
