Border Patrol officials say three people, including two U.S. citizens, were caught trying to smuggle nearly 150 pounds of meth in separate incidents in Nogales.

On Oct. 12, agents referred an 18-year-old Nogales man driving a Dodge Ram for additional screening at the Interstate 19 Immigration Checkpoint. When an agency canine alerted to an odor from the vehicle, agents found 58 pounds of meth contained within 53 packages, the agency said in a news release.

The drugs were valued at more than $175,260.

On Sunday, agents sent a 26-year-old Mexican woman and a 22-year-old Rio Rico woman in a Dodge Grand Caravan for additional inspection. Agents then discovered 38 packages of meth hidden in the vehicle.

The drugs weighed nearly 90 pounds and were valued at $271,140, the news release said.

All three were arrested for drug smuggling. The drugs and vehicles were turned over to the Drug Enforcement Administration.
