On this date in 1998, Linda McCartney died quietly at the 151-acre ranch she and her Beatle husband, Paul, shared in Tucson, on the rural eastside near Redington Pass.

Linda and Paul McCartney married in 1969.

Linda McCartney had been an art history student at the University of Arizona before she moved to New York and met McCartney.

It was her connection to the city, Paul McCartney once told a reporter, that prompted him to include the line, β€œJo-Jo left his home in Tucson, Arizona for some California grass,” in the 1969 hit, β€œGet Back.”

He said Jo-Jo was a made-up name.

At the time "Get Back" was written, Paul McCartney hadn't even been to Tucson.

Linda McCartney, a photographer, was 56 years old when she died of breast cancer.
