Oro Valley is moving its July Fourth celebration to Naranja Park this year and for the first time it will hold its own fireworks show as part of the event.

The town in the past held the event at James D. Kriegh Park with the fireworks provided by the nearby Hilton Tucson El Conquistador Golf & Tennis Resort. The town previously purchased the country club portion of the resort.

The free event begins at 5 p.m. with live entertainment, kids activities, numerous food trucks and more. The fireworks show will begin at about 9 p.m.

Naranja Park is located at 810 W. Naranja Drive, just east of North La CaΓ±ada Drive.

The town is grading several acres of land to serve as parking for this event, but on-site parking is expected to fill up quickly. Overflow parking will be available at Ironwood Ridge High School, 2475 W. Naranja Drive. School buses will shuttle people to and from the park.

Shuttle service will begin at 5 p.m. and the buses will run about every 10-15 minutes between the two locations. The last shuttle leaves the school for the park at 8:30 p.m.

Organizers said people attending the event should be aware of some safety rules:

  • No pets allowed
  • No alcohol
  • No smoking
  • No glass containers
  • No pop-up tents or shade canopies
  • No personal fireworks, including no sparklers.

Residents near the park should also take precautions to keep their pets safe during noise from the fireworks.

More information is available at the town’s website, www.orovalleyaz.gov, and on its Facebook page.
