Pima Animal Care Center is waiving adoption fees for all cats, dogs, puppies and kittens through Sunday, due to overcrowding at the shelter.
The shelter took in more than 400 pets last week, bringing its total census up to nearly 900 dogs, cats, puppies and kittens, according to a news release from Pima County.
Beginning on Monday, Oct. 5, new adoption fees for puppies and kittens will take effect, with all pets younger than six months old costing $50 to adopt. Pets older than six months will still have a $30 adoption fee. A license fee of $16 may still apply.
The shelter, located at 4000 North Silverbell Road, is open from noon to 7 p.m. today and Friday and from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.
The four PetSmart locations will offer free cat and kitten adoptions through Sunday and bring dogs and puppies on Saturday between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m.
Participating PetSmarts are located at Oracle and Wetmore, Grant and Swan and El Con Mall. Dogs and puppies will also be available for adoption at a PetSmart site at La Encantada.
