A man waiting in the parking lot of a Tucson shop for his car to be serviced was struck and killed when a worker in a high-profile pickup truck hit him as he backed up, police say.

The was in the parking lot of Tony's Carwash on 4415 S. 6th Ave. when an employee was preparing to leave the area in a red Chevy Silverado LTZ.

The worker told police when he started to drive out the parking lot he didn't see the male sitting down and struck him.

Officers pronounced the man dead at the scene, said Sgt. Pete Dugan, a police spokesman.

Northbound South Sixth Avenue at East Pennsylvania Drive was shut down shortly before 1:30 p.m. Drivers were asked to avoid the area.

No further information about the deadly crash was immediately released.
