A pedestrian has been struck and killed by a train in downtown.

A pedestrian has been struck and killed by a train downtown, Tucson police reported Friday afternoon.

The accident happened at the railroad crossing at North Seventh Avenue near East Toole Avenue.

The crossing as well as several other streets in the area are blocked by the train and will be closed for a period of time, Tucson police Sgt. Pete Dugan said in a Tweet.

Motorists should avoid the area.
