A 24-year-old person was killed when struck by a train in Benson Monday morning, an official said.

It appears they saw the approaching train and remained in its path until they were hit, Benson police said.

The collision happened at about 10 a.m., near North San Pedro Street, said Tim McMahan, a Union Pacific spokesman.

Benson police detectives and Union Pacific investigators are at the scene.

No further information has been released.
