A man was killed Wednesday when he ran onto a Tucson-area road and hit the side of a passing vehicle, the Pima County Sheriff's Department says.ย

The department gave the following account in a news release Friday night:

Deputies were called at 7:19 p.m. Jan. 17 to respond to the collision in the area of South Palo Verde Road and East Irvington Road.

They found 35-year-old Willius Ventura in the roadway, where bystanders were attempting life-saving measures. Medical personnel arrived and took over providing those measures. Ventura was taken to a hospital where he died of his injuries.

Sheriff's traffic detectives determined that Ventura ran onto the road, was struck, fell into the road and was possibly hit by a second vehicle. The investigation continues.ย

The department asks that anyone with information call 9-1-1 or to submit an anonymous tip, with the potential for a reward, by text or phone at 88crime (520-822-7463) or by going to 88Crime.
