The bark of the palm tree shows where a single vehicle crashed into it early Monday morning, killing four people and leaving one person seriously injured. The crash happened near the intersection of Sixth Street and Country Club Road.

A pregnant woman and her unborn child were among four people who died Monday morning in a single-vehicle wreck on East Sixth Street, Tucson police said.

Alcohol appears to be a factor in the crash that occurred about 1:50 a.m. as the vehicle was traveling east near North Country Club Road. The unidentified driver lost control of the Lincoln Towncar and slammed into a palm tree in the median. Detectives are investigating whether speed also was a factor, the Tucson Police Department said in a news release.

The driver is being treated at Banner University Medical Center for critical injuries, police said.

The four passenger who died have been identified as: Alexandria Lara, 25; Martin Verdugo, 26; and Sheyla Velarde, 28. Lara's unborn child is listed as the fourth fatality.
