Primavera Foundation says it has completed the first of four new homes for low-income families on previously distressed lots in South Tucson.
The project was made possible, in part, by a $500,000 grant to Primavera from Project Reinvest: Neighborhoods. The revitalization effort is being carried out in partnership with the city of South Tucson. Primavera has been revitalizing properties in South Tucson since 2007 with the projects including single-family homes, a rental-housing community and several public gardens.
At least 60 percent of the grant money will be used for physical improvements to the community in South Tucson, including the building of the four new homes.
Primavera was the only Arizona nonprofit to receive a grant from Project Reinvest among about 240 applicants nationwide.
Three more new, affordable homes are due for completion by September, built with developer Carerra Custom Homes, and are for sale, Primavera said in a news release. The 1,300-square-foot homes have three bedrooms and two bathrooms.
The new single-family homes will be made available to low-income families to purchase, with down payment assistance available.
Primavera hosted an open house Friday that allowed the public to tour the completed home and learn more about the project.
