The Pima County Wastewater Reclamation Department and its advisory committee are hosting a public meeting Thursday about the proposed increase of sewer connection fees, officials said.

Connection fees, which are different than monthly sewer user fees,  are set to increase by up to 4 percent in upcoming months, with the last fee increase having occurred in 2012, according to a news release from the wastewater reclamation department.

The meeting will begin a 8 a.m. at the Board of Supervisors Hearing Room, located on the first floor of 130 West Congress Street.

Anyone seeking more information about the proposed increase is encouraged to attend the public meeting, where they'll have an opportunity to comment on the proposal.

The proposed rate increase can be reviewed online here or by calling Pima County's Finance and Risk Management Department at 724-3669. Questions can also be submitted via email to keith.dommer@pima.gov.

Homebuilders and new businesses pay sewer connection fees when they connect to the sewer system or increase their potential to discharge to the public sewer system, the release said.

New customers are required to "buy-in" to the system when they first connect to Pima County's wastewater system, based on their expected use.

The final recommendation to increase the fees is scheduled for consideration during the Pima County Board of Supervisors' April 18 meeting.
